Source for notated version: - the 1800-1802 music manuscript collection of ship’s fiddler Willam Litten, compiled during a voyage to the Far East aboard a vessel of the East India Fleet (which may have been a military or a cargo ship). The manuscript was evidently brought to Martha’s Vineyard by a shipmate of Litten’s. Unfortunately, nothing is known of Litten or his origins.
