BONNY CUCKOO, THE. AKA and see "Cuckoo (6) (The)," "Pretty Cuckoo (The)," "Si Bheg Si Mhor," "Young Cuckoo." Irish, Air (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune is a variant of the well-known composition "Sheebeg and Sheemore" attributed to harper Turlough Carolan and first printed by John and William Neale in Dublin in their Celebrated Irish Tunes (c. 1726). "Bonny Cuckoo" was collected by Belfast collector Edward Bunting (1773-1843) from Mr. Joy in the district of Ballinascreen. See closely related versions by Howe ("Young Cuckoo") and O'Neill ("Bonny Cuckoo (The)").
