COLIN STOLE MY HEART AWAY. AKA and see "Fields were Green (The)," "He Stole My Tender Heart Away," "Young Colin stole my heart away." English, Scottish; Air (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Anglo-Scottish song also appears in the music manuscript collection of New York landowner Henry Livingston [1]. It begins:
The fields were green, the hills were gay
And birds were singing on each spray
When Colin met me in the grove,
And told me tender tales of love.
Was ever swain so blithe as he?
So kind, so faithful and so free?
In spite of all my friends could say,
Young Colin stole my heart away.
