COQUETTE [2]. AKA and see "Middletown Hornpipe." American, Hornpipe. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Fr. John Quinn finds Kerr's "Coquette [2]" to be a re-naming of "Middletown Hornpipe," composed by New York musician Michael Higgins and printed in the early decades of the 19th century. The name 'Coquette' refers to a contra or country dance for which the tune was played.
