DUBLIN LADS, THE. AKA and see "Thornton's (Reel)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. The tune has a variety of names -- see note for "Talk:Hould the Reins." "Dublin Lads" is a recent title for the tune, coined by Pat Mitchell, who recorded County Clare uilleann piper Willie Clancy playing it. Pat inquired of Clancy as to the title, receiving the reply that he did not known, but that he had obtained it from some 'lads from Dublin'. The name Dublin is derived from the Gaelic dubh linne, or 'the black pool'. The first strain of "Dublin Lads" is shared with "Hold the Reins" and "Lucky in Love."
