FLIRT, THE. AKA and see "Amorous Goddess (2) (The)," "Wood Cutters (2)." English, Reel. England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. As "Amorous Goddess (2) (The)" the melody was printed in John Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 4 (London, 1748), in David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (London, 1756), and James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1 (Glasgow, 1782). It also was entered (as "Amorous Goddess") in the 1795 music manuscript copybook of Mansfield, Connecticut, musician Luther Kingsley. William Vickers included another tune "Musette (The)" that has an alternate title "Amorous Goddess," but it is a different melody.
