MAID'S COMPLAINT [1], THE. Irish, Slip Jig (8/8 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole, Ryan): AA'BB' (Kennedy). The tune as published in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) is an exact copy of an untitled jig in James Mason's Hamilton's Universal Tune Book, vol. 2 (Glasgow, 1846, p. 1). It is a member of the "Top it Off/Tip it Off" family of slip jigs.
