MISS JESSY STEWART’S REEL. AKA – “Miss Jessy Stewart’s Strathspey.” AKA and see "Miss Hay's Reel (2)," "Mr. John Shaw Stewart’s (1)." Scottish, Reel or Strathspey. G Minor (McGlashan, Surenne): G Dorian (MacDonald, Mulhollan): A Dorian (Anderson). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Surenne): AAB (Anderson, MacDonald, McGlashan, Mulhollan). Composed by Biography:Malcolm MacDonald as "Miss Jessy Stewart's Reel", first printed in his Collection of Strathspey Reels (1788), dedicated to Mrs. Baird of Newbyth. However, the tune also appears as "Mr. John Shaw Stewart’s," attributed to Niel Gow, and "Miss Hay's Reel (2)," attributed to Robert Petrie. The reel/strathspey is also similar to John Riddell of Ayr's Mrs. Crawfurd of Donside," published in his Collection of Scots Reels, Minuets & c. for the Violin (1766, p. 25), which may prove to be the ancestral source.
