SCOTTISH MARCH, A. AKA and see "One-Horned Cow (2) (The)," "Páinneach na nUbh (1)," "Carawith Jig," "Retreat (The)," "Pretender's March," "Green Goose Fair (1)," "Montrose's March," "Rock and a Wee Pickle Tow (A)," "O'Sullivan More's March (1)," "Highlander's March (The)," "Captain Collins." Scottish, March (6/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune under this title was from J. Playford's The First Part of Musick's Handmaid, 1678; Glen says it was also in the 1663 edition of that work with an extra bar in the turn from the usual versions. Playford included it in his 1669 Musick's Recreation under the name "Montrose's March," as did Oswald in his Curious Collection of 1740.
