The tune appears in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon biography:James Goodman. Hugh and Lisa Shield see comparisons with "The Sword in Hand" in Mitchel & Small's Piping of Patsy Tuohey (1986, No. 14) and Goodman's own "The Union is welcome to Ireland."
