OLD LIBERTY. American, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. "Old Liberty" is from the repertoire of Franklin County, northeast Kentucky, fiddler Kelly Gilbert. The title references the tune "Liberty" but they are quite different tunes. Fiddlers often used the adjective "old" or "old-time" with a tune name to identify a tune in their repertoire that may be different but perhaps reminiscent of the usual one. In this case, "Liberty" is the common tune, while "Old Liberty" seems unique to Gilbert's playing. Gilbert was recorded in the field in Franklin County by collector John Harrod in June of 1978.
