REEL DE VALENTIN. AKA - "Reel de St-Valentin." AKA and see "Reel de l'enfantà cette," "Reel du grand-père (Le)," "Reel du laboureur," "Speed the Plough." French-Canadian (originally English), Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Allard's "Reel de Valentin", recorded in 1937, is a faithful rendering of the late 18th century reel "Speed the Plough." RCA Victor re-released the 1937 recording in 1946 with the slightly altered title "Reel de la St-Valentin." The title in Carmelle Begin's 1978 thesis is "Reel de l'enfantà cette." Allard researcher Jean Duval points out that Allard's grandfather was a well-respected fiddler, so perhaps the title refers to him. See also A.J. Boulay's version "Reel du laboureur."
