GEORGIA BELLE(S). Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Western North Carolina. G Mixolydian [Krassen]: G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABA'CCA'C'. Source for notated version: Manco Sneed [1](Graham County, North Carolina) [Krassen]. Sneed learned the tune from J.D. Harris or Mac Hensley around 1897-1903 (Krassen). In the repertoire of fiddler Osey Helton, from the same region as Sneed. J. Dedrick Harris was a legendary Tennessee fiddler who played with Bob Taylor while the latter was running for governor of the sate in the late 1800's. He moved to Western N.C. in the 1920's and influence a generation of fiddlers there: Osey Helton, Manco Sneed, Bill Hensley, Marcus Martin. The colony of Georgia was named in honor of King George II, in 1732.
