ST(E). AGATHE. AKA and see "Esquimaults Reel," "Reel de Ste-Anne," "Reel esquimault," "Reel des esquimaults," "St. Anne's Reel.” French‑Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The reel, well-known in a number of genres in the English-speaking world as "St. Anne's Reel," was first recorded by Montreal fiddler Joseph Allard (1873-1947) in 1930 as "Reel des esquimaults." Another Montreal fiddler, Isidore Soucy (1899-1962) later recorded a version as "Reel lune de miel" (Honeymoon Reel).
One of Samuel Bayard's Pennsylvania‑collected untitled reels (1981; No. 78, p. 50) resembles this tune's first strain.
