MACLACHLAN'S REEL. AKA and see "Glenbucket's Breeks. Scottish, Strathspey. C Major (Glen): D Major (Aird). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Angus Cumming's 1780 A Collection of Strathspeys or Old Highland Reels (p. 16). Glen notes distinct similarities with Henry Playford's "Cronstoune", printed in 1700, while Fr. John Quinn ties the tune to "A New Reels", printed in George Skene's Musick Book (No. 301, 1715-1717). See also London music publisher Daniel Wright's cognate "Jenny's Whim (3)."
