HIGGINS' FAREWELL. American, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Higgins' Farewell" was in the repertoire of fiddler Street Butler (1904-1977), of Elkton, Todd County,
southwest Kentucky, who was recorded in the field in 1976 by musician and folklorist Bruce Greene. Guitarist Merle Travis recorded an instrumental titled "Higgins Farewell" on his c. 1960 LP "The Coonhunters, featuring Merle Travis," perhaps the same tune. See also the related "Lady of the Lake."
