TURNER'S HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Fair Maidens_(1)_(The)," "Rival Hornpipe," "Rival Reel." American, Hornpipe (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was later printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection as "Rival Hornpipe." Elias Howe printed "Turner's Reel" in his Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (1880-1882), and, while there is no musical relationship between the two tunes, it may be that the title refers to a Turner who was a bandleader or soloist in the Boston area active in the mid-19th century.
