CHANCES [1]. English. Slip Jig (9/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. The melody also appears in John Johnson's 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (London, 1758). "The Chancess" is one of the "missing tunes" from William Vickers' 1770 Northumberland dance tune manuscript, although whether it was the one in Thompson/Johnson is unknown. There are other tunes by that name.
