CASTLE RAG HORNPIPE, THE. AKA and see "Clog Dance (4)," "Railway Hornpipe (2)," "Steam Packet Hornpipe (2)." English, Hornpipe. England, Shropshire. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Source John Moore also entered another version of the tune in his ms collection as "Railway Hornpipe (2)." Similar to "The Cliff Hornpipe." A 'castle rag' is cant for a 'flag', but was also a slang term for a fourpence. See note for "annotation:Railway Hornpipe (2)" for more. A version of "Castle Rag Hornpipe" was also entered into the 1833 music manuscript collection of Lionel Winship (Wark, Northumberland), as an untitled hornpipe.
