GO IN AND OUT THE WINDOW. Old-Time, Air and March. D Major. From the playing of the late Owen "Snake" Chapman, who has been credited with composting the second part of the tune. Some melodic material in the piece is quite old, having origins in the 18th century English and French melody "Malbrouk" (Bear Went Over the Mountain (The)), but quite common in throughout the South under such titles as "We Won't Go Home Till Morning," "Pig in the Parlor," "We're Marching Round the Levee" and others. It was the vehicle for play-party songs and games.
