Originally from N:Tullymet, near Pitlochry, Perthshire. He moved to London in the last decade N:of his life. Composed by Edinburgh fiddler-composer and bandleader Biography:Robert Mackintosh (c. 1745-1808) and first printed in his 4th collection of tunes (London, 1804). Paul Stewart Cranford (1995) notes that Winston ‘Scotty’ Fitzgerald popularized the tune among Cape Breton fiddlers, where it remains a popular reel, frequently recorded.
