THRUMS CAIRN THE. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by the renowned Victorian era fiddler-composer biography:J. Scott Skinner (1841-1927). Scottish playwright and novelist J.M. Barrie (of Peter Pan fame) wrote several novels using the fictional setting of Thrums (see, for example, his A Window in Thrums) said to be modeled on Barrie's home town of Kirriemuir. Skinner transcribed the tune by hand on the back of an envelope and sent it to his pupil, James McPherson of Kirriemuir in 1908, and later published this melody in his Monikie series.
