BISBEE'S WALTZ. American, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABBCC. Jasper "Jep" Bisbee was a fiddler from Paris, Michigan, with New England roots. He was in his 80's when he was discovered by Henry Ford whilst playing at a Michigan dance in 1923. The tune's 'B' part recalls "Copenhagen Waltz" in Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford's "Good Morning" collection, says Bronner (1987). Ford's square dance band, consisting ofClayton Perry (fiddle), Edwin F. Baxter (dulcimer), William Hallup (cimbalom) and Maurice Castel (sousaphone), recorded the waltz for Columbia records in 1927.
