BELISLE MARCH. AKA and see "Belle Isle's March." AKA - "Belile's March." Scottish, English; March (whole time). G Major (Howe): A Mixolydian (McLachlan). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune appears in the [James] Gillespie Manuscript of Perth, 1768, and in a number of musicians' copybook collections on both sides of the Atlantic in the latter 18th century. A dance by that title was mentioned by MacTaggart in an account in The Scottish Gallovidian Encyclopedia of 1824 as being taught at a country dancing school of the time.
