TRIP TO GALWAY (Turas go Gaillim/Gaillimh). AKA and see "Come in from the Rain," "Jig (84)," "Jig (93)." Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). D Minor (Cole/Ryan): E Dorian (Breathnach). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is a variant of “Hills of Glenorchy (1).” Paul de Grae finds earlier, untitled versions in P.W. Joyce's Ancient Irish Music (1873, No. 31) and Elias Howe's 1,000 Jigs and Reels (c. 1867). It can also be found as an untitled jig in Charles Villiers Stanford's Complete Collection of Petrie's Irish Music (1905, No. 972, p. 248, obtained from P.W. Joyce), and in the music ms. collection of John "Boss" Murphy. Joyce gives the note: "This spirited tune has remained in my memory since I was a child" [ed. i.e. in the 1840's in County Limerick]; "and I could hardly help learning it, for it was a general favourite with fiddlers, pipers and dancers."
