TEMPEST [5], THE. AKA and see “Casey's Reel.” Irish, Reel. D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. “The Tempest” was collected from the playing of fiddler John Kelly Sr. by Brendan Breathnach. Fiddler Séamus Connolly also remembers hearing the tune played by fiddle masters Kelly and Joe Ryan on Ciarán MacMathuna’s broadcasts on Irish radio in the 1960’s. It is occasionally attributed to Clare fiddler Bobby Casey (who was recorded playing it in a performance with Joe Ryan in the latter 1950's[1]), but has also been linked to County Sligo (Micheal Gorman, c. 1957) and/or Donegal fiddling.
