TARTAN ON THE HEATHER, THE. Irish, Highland (whole time). Ireland, County Donegal. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’B. Mick Browne remarks that Donegal fiddler James Byrne recorded a Glencolmcille version of this highland on the album 'The Brass Fiddle', and says "A version similar to Doherty's was also associated with Frank Cassidy." Nigel Gatherer compares the melody to the Scots strathspey "Miller o' Drone (The)" and the Irish version "Miller of Draughin/Drohan (The)" (as well as the American derivative, "Grey Eagle").
