QUÉBEC (REEL), THE. AKA - "Montreal Reel (3)." Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was popularized by 'Down-East' radio and TV fiddler and bandleader Don Messer (1909-1973), who played it in broadcasts in the mid-1940's. The reel was in the repertory of fiddler Erskine Morris (1913-1997), originally from Douglastown, a franco-anglophone community on the tip of the Gaspé peninsula. However, Morris called it "Montreal Reel" on a 1990 cassette home recording.
