JUBA 'ROUND THE KETTLE OF FAT. American, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Juba 'round the Kettle of Fat" is sourced to the repertory of Saratoga County, northern New York, fiddler Earl Eddy. Unfortunately, very little is known about Eddy, although he was held in him esteem by the older 20th century fiddlers in the region and was reputed to have had a vast repertoire. No recordings of him exist but some of his tunes have come from other regional fiddlers he influenced, chiefly fiddler and singer Lawrence Older (1912-1982, Middle Grove, Saratoga County, NY), who cut and peeled pine logs for tanneries and pulp for a living, and worked in a locomotive factory. See also "Earl Eddy's Breakdown/Favorite."
