SO EARLY IN THE MORNING. AKA and see: “Early in the Morning (3),” "Over the Hills and Far Away (4)." English; Country Dance or Polka (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered into the Alex Sutherland Manuscript (Ireland, c.1930) as "Early in the Morning." The title comes from the chorus of the rhyme sung to it:
When I was young, I had no sense,
I bought a fiddle for eighteen pence.
The only tune that it would play
Was “Over the Hills and Far Away”.
