MRS. WISEMAN<ref>Her name is spelled "Wiseman" in the index to Miller o' Hirn and "Wisemen" with the tune itself. She is referred to as "Wiseman" in accounts. <ref>. Scottish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Mrs. Wiseman" was composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer and dancing master wikipedia:James_Scott_Skinner (1843-1927) in honor of "The celebrated Pianiste" as he referred to her. Mrs. Wiseman, Aberdeen, was one of Skinner's accompanists and a member of his 'orchestra' or band he put together for larger events. The Forres Gazette in 1870's printed this report of a gala at the end of a term of his dancing school:
:
At Nairn, the other evening, Mr Skinner closed with a grand assembly, when the
appearance of his pupils gaveunmistakable evidence of his ability as a teacher. It was
remarked, on the occasion referred to, by many of thevisitors present, that such a
splendid orchestra has seldomor ever been heard at a ball in the north. It was made up
as follows:—Mr J. S. Skinner—violin ; Mr Dunlop, fromthe Opera House, Aberdeen—flute
and piccolo ; Mrs Wiseman, Aberdeen, piano; Mr Frank Sutherland, Forres—cornet; Mr.
J. Sutherland, Elgin—basso ; and bagpipes—Pipe-Major Maclennan. The music itself
was a great treat, and we trust that Mr Skinner may receive such encouragement here
as will enable him to bring an equally good bandto Forres for his closing night.
