NEW COINED GUINEA [2]. AKA - "La Belle." English, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered into the music manuscript collection of Waverton, Cumbria, musician John Rook, 1840. It is a different tune than the Shetland one of the same name (for which see "New Coined Guinea (1) (Da)"). A relatively close version of the tune was entered under the title "La Belle" in the music manuscript collection of Aberdeen musician William Mackie, thought to date to the early decades of the 19th century. Mackie's title suggests the tune may have originally had a French provenance.
