The tune is contained in vol. 2 (p. 161)[1] of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper wikipedia:James_Goodman_(musicologist), obtained from a manuscript provided by Dublin bookseller John O'Daly[2]. Researcher Conor Ward finds cognate melodies in the music manuscript collection of Patrick O'Farrell (c. 1835-?) of Ballinamuck, Co. Longford, as "Price of the Pig (The)" and as an untitled jig in Book 5 of County Leitrim piper and fiddler biography:Stephen Grier's large c. 1883 music manuscript collection (Grier, Book 5, No. 57). The first strain is similar to "Patrick's Day." "King of the Pipers (2)" and "Humors of Glynn" are similar tunes.
