QUATRE COINS [2], LES (The Four Corners). French-Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Researcher Jean Duval finds Boucher's "Les Quatre Coins [2]" to be similar to the group of tunes typified by "Four Poster Bed (The)" in which the fiddler taps the top of the fiddle with his/her bow in time to rests or pizzicato notes in the music. There are a few such tunes in Québec repertory, notably "Quatre coins de St-Malo (Les)," but also including "Bobelo (Le)" and "Reel des enfants." Duval notes that Montreal fiddler J.O. La Madeleine's "Rabidibidou", recorded in 1929, is also similar, with a second strain that is almost identical to Boucher's "Quatre Coins [2]."
