LOUIS RIEL. Canadian, Reel (cut time). Canada, Manitoba. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCC. "Louis Riel" was composed c. 1955 by Manitoba Métis fiddler Andy DeJarlis. wikipedia:Louis_Riel (1844-1885) was a Canadian politician, a founder of the province of Manitoba, and a political leader of the Métis people. In 1884 Riel was called upon by the Métis leaders in Saskatchewan to help resolve longstanding grievances with the Canadian government, which led to an armed conflict with government forces: the North-West Rebellion of 1885. He was caught that same year and tired for treason, leading to his execution by hanging.
