BRISTOL. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Bristol" is contained in the 1850 music manuscript collection of William Winter, a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset. Winter researcher Geoff Woolfe suggests the tune has some antiquity, perhaps dating to the 17th century, and finds the Scottish reel "Mrs. Hill's Delight" to be a similar tune.
