MAID'S COMPLAINT [1], THE. AKA and see "Connemara Jig," "McCarthy's Jig," "Rouse It," "Top it off." Irish, Slip Jig (8/8 time). F Major (Manson, Ryan): D Major (Joyce). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Joyce): AABB (Cole, Ryan): AA'BB' (Kennedy). The tune as published in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) is an exact copy of an untitled jig in James Mason's Hamilton's Universal Tune Book, vol. 2 (Glasgow, 1846, p. 1). An untitled version was also published as a hop jig in P.W. Joyce's Ancient Irish Music (1873). It is a member of the "Top it off/Tip it Off" family of slip jigs.
