IRISH HORNPIPE. American(?), Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Despite the title, the tune does not sound characteristically Irish to my ears, but rather more like the standard 19th century British or American stage hornpipes typical in Ryan's Mammoth. A genericly titled "Irish Hornpipe" was recorded by Joseph Samuels for Edison Records (50900 {78 RPM}) in 1920 (appears as one of tunes of "Miss Johnson's Party Melody"). It is on Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden's list of '100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes'.
