JACOB HALL'S JIG. AKA and see "Under and Over." English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). F Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody dates to 1695 as "Under and Over", the older title. "Jacob Hall's Jig" is properly the name of another tune (see "Jacob Hall's Jig (2)"), however, "Over and Under" has been employed as a vehicle for the dance Jacob Hall's Jig, and the latter name stuck through association with the dance. The substitution is a fairly modern one, attributed to early 20th century collector Cecil Sharp.
