Tune properties and standard notation
DEVIL'S HORNPIPE. Old-Time, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The melody is similar to "Speed the Plow (1)" and "Blanchard's Hornpipe (1)." It was in the repertoire of Missouri fiddler Roy Wooliver (Dent County), and John Hartford learne it from the playing of Gene Goforth. The title appears in a list of tunes compiled by W.E.G. of Verbena (Chilton County), Alabama, printed in the Union Banner, September 29th, 1922, although it may not refer to the Missouri tune.
