BONEY LADS. AKA and see "Because He Was a Bonnie Lad," "The Bonny Lad." British Isles, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB.

Source for notated version: the 1800-1802 music manuscript collection of ship's fiddler William Litten, who seems to have served with the British Navy in Asia just at the turn of the 19th century. The ms. was apparently entrusted to a shipmate, and ended up on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Printed sources: Cole (1000 Fiddle Tunes), 1940; p. 16 (appears as "The Bonnie Lad"). Huntington (William Litten's), 1977; p. 20. Kennedy (Fiddlers Tune Book), vol. 1, 1951; No. 36, p. 18 (appears as "Bonny Lad"). Raven (English Country Dance Tunes), 1984; p. 170 (appears as "Bonny Lad"). Ryan's Mammoth Collection, 1883.
