MISS MURRAY’S REEL [2]. Scottish, Old Hornpipe or Jig (3/2 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. May be the "Miss Murrays" reel to which directions for dancing were written down in 1752 by John McGill, dancing master in Girvan, for his students. John Glen (1891) finds two Scottish reels in print by this title; one in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection and one in Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 30). Paul Cranford finds the first turn reminiscent of the Irish slip jig “Butterfly (The).”
