LAND LEAGUE [1]. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The composition is credited to "Parnell" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection, but the 'A' strain is shared with "[Harry Cooper]]," "Jim Clark's Hornpipe," and "Morpeth's Hornpipe." New York musician, writer and researcher Don Meade believes the attribution to Parnell is a joke, as Irish politician Charles Stuart Parnell was a leading proponent of land reform. However, it was Michael Davitt (1846 - 1906), born in Straide, Co Mayo, who was the founder of The Land League in Ireland, which helped organize tenant farmers against landlords.
