LAND LEAGUE [1]. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The composition is credited to "Parnell" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection, but the 'A' strain is shared with "Harry Cooper," "Jim Clark's Hornpipe," and "Morpeth's Hornpipe." New York musician, writer and researcher Don Meade believes the attribution to Parnell is a joke, as Irish politician Charles Stuart Parnell was a leading proponent of land reform. However, it was Michael Davitt (1846 - 1906), born in Straide, Co Mayo, who was the founder of The Land League [1] in Ireland, which helped organize tenant farmers against landlords.
