LEFT HANDED FIDDLER, THE. Scottish, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by J. Scott Skinner and named for George Taylor of Aberdeen, whose son (George I. Talyor) also was a left-handed fiddler. Skinner's was familiar with left handed fiddlers, as his father became one after an accident with machinery that left his right hand mangled (for this reason it is sometimes said that he composed it for his father). The minor-mode stathspey called "Captain's Pledge (The)", is sometimes known as "George I. Taylor." See also the similar Irish tune "Columba Ward's."
