CHIT CHAT. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. In addition to the jig's appearance in Samuel, Ann & Peter Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 5 (London, 1788), the tune appears in Longman, Lukey, & Broderip's Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (London, c. 1776). The latter volume has confused dating, maintained the late Bruce Olson, with the last (fourth) section dating to around 1781, while the third section contains 24 country dances for the year 1773.
