LORD FRANCIS RUSSELL. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Moyra Gowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999) speculates that Lord Francis Russell may have been one of the stepsons of Georgianna Gordon, Duchess of Bedford, who married the widower John Russell, the 6th Duke of Beford. Georgianna was the daughter of Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon, Marshall's employer, for whom he worked as Steward of the Household.
