MAGGIE [2]. AKA and see "When You and I were Young Maggie." Old-Time. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCBABCB. A version of James Austin Butterfield's (1837-1891) popular song "When You and I were Young, Maggie" (lyrics by George Washington Johnson). See Annotation:When You and I were Young Maggie for more. In addition to source Cotton Combs' Ozarks region variant, the song was in the repertoire of North Ga. fiddlers c. 1922, and was recorded by Fiddlin' John Carson (1923), Riley Puckett (1924) and (Clayton) McMichen's Melody Men (1927).
