MÀIRI NIGHEAN DEORSA [2] (Mary, George's Daughter). Scottish, Air (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A related melody to "Màiri Nighean Deorsa (1)." This triple-time air appears in Biography:Donald Down's Collection of Ancient Scottish Airs, published in Edinburgh in the 1770's. The exact year is in question; dates as early as 1773 and as late as 1778 have been given. The same melody appears in a manuscript collected around 1810 by the Armagh-born collector Edward Bunting, according to Colm Ó Baoill, without a bass line, with the note that it was "Copie(s?) out of old printed Book." See also notes to the related "Annotation:Grant of Sheuglie's Contest" for more.
