CRONSTOUNE. Scottish, Dance Tune. Published in Henry Playford's 1700 collection of Scottish dance tunes.The name Cranstoun comes from the Barony of Cranstoun in Midlothian. Clan Cranstoun fought on the side of the Royalists in the Civil War, following which his estates were forfeit. John Glen finds the tune under the title "MacLachlan's Reel" in Angus Cumming's 1780 A Collection of Strathspeys and Old Highland Reels.
